When logging in into Windows a myriad of applications and processes are loaded, some of them on the desktop and some others in the background, consuming unnecessary system resources. Of course, many programs, processes and needed for our system to start properly since many processes are bound to drivers and software we usually use.

Autoruns will enable us to monitor and manage all the processes and applications providing a detailed list of those processes set to run at Windows startup. In this way, we can know which processes and application run at startup and remove then if they´re unnecessary. Even when Windows includes it own tool which can be accessed by typing msconfig in the “Run…” box, it does not feature as many options as Autoruns.

Even when Autoruns wasn´t made for novice Windows users, msconfig is not wasn´t either, and all its additional options makes it an excellent choice to view and manage all your processes in a more organized way. Simply run Autoruns and it shows you the currently configured auto-start applications as well as the full list of Registry and file system locations available for auto-start configuration. Autostart locations displayed by Autoruns include logon entries, Explorer add-ons, Internet Explorer add-ons including Browser Helper Objects (BHOs), Appinit DLL, image hijacks, boot execute images, Winlogon notification DLLs, Windows Services and Winsock Layered Service Providers. You can switch tabs to view autostarts from different categories.

Autoruns‘ Hide Signed Microsoft Entries option helps you to zoom in on third-party auto-starting images that have been added to your system and it has support for looking at the auto-starting images configured for other accounts configured on a system. Also included in the download package is a command-line equivalent that can output in CSV format, Autorunsc.

In short, Autoruns is a great tool for managing your self-running processes, thus enabling users to have a more thorough control regarding the application and processes activity in our system.

Your kids or friends use your computer from time to time and do a total mess? Don´t worry, there is a solution: Deep Freeze. This software “freezes” your hard drive and any change that you make on your system, including deleting files, will have no effect upon restarting. Deep Freeze will keep your computer as good as new at all times.

If your computer is kept in an environment where many other people have access to it, you could be looking at one continual headache, especially if some of these users are not particularly computer-savvy. To prevent possible disasters, you could implement Deep Freeze, a tool which “freezes” the operating system, preventing any changes being made to the operating system. Everytime you shutdown your PC, only the files kept on non-freezed drives will be saved.

When Deep Freeze is installed it generates a complete copy of the hard disk you choose, which is then loaded every time the system starts up. The only problem is that any files that you don’t save to a “fixed” partition or a network drive will be lost if the PC is accidentally switched off or restarted.

The installation process consists of choosing the drives we wish to freeze. This is the one and only stage of the installation, therefore it´s recommended that you shut down all applications before proceeding to ensure it installs without issues. You can thaw the drives at any time, so don’t worry if you froze the wrong ones.

The installation has certain requirements that must be strictly adhered to, such as the deactivation of any antivirus application, for example. Once the process has finished, Deep Freeze presents you with a compact, simple interface from which you can control both the freezing of the system and the “Clone” feature, designed to prepare master images for deployment onmultiple machines.

This is extremely handy when cloning several PCs with the same hardware components.

Another interesting feature is setting restriction for specific users so they can´t access certain folders, system tools, configuration panels. By doing so, we can protect our most valuable data from being modified.

According to our tests, the program remains stable whilst the computer is frozen. The only problems may come if the protection is removed after a long period of time and many system files need to be updated.

Deep Freeze is an interesting tool for public-access computers which would otherwise need constant maintenance, taking up valuable time and effort. However, it can be a bit uncomfortable to successfully implement Deep Freezee on home PCs if we are constantly installing new programs or modifying files.

As we are all aware, after using programs that consume of a lot of RAM memory, or when using the PC for a while without restarting it, the system inevitably becomes slower. SUPERRAM will enables user to free up ram memory quickly and easily.

As we open SUPERRAM, we will find the main screen where a graph will indicate the amount of ram free (blue) and the percentage being used by the system (red). If red takes up most of the graph, it means our system it running low on ram memory and you will notice it´s extremely slow, so need to free up some memory to make it faster.

To change this situation, first, click on View and Change settings”. A new window will be opened. Once there, we can modify the percentages of used memory and free memory. In the lower gauge we can modify the used memory by moving it to the left. Be reminded that this gauge at the same time moves the other one. When we are done with the changes, click on “save”.

After a few seconds, we can notice that graph percentages have been modified.

Now that we achieved to diminish some of the ram memory being used, we can verify it´s activity using the active SUPERRAMmonitor, located on the taskbar.

The grid represents the total amount of available of ram memory, while the green color indicates the amount of memory being used. As we can see, our previous modifications keep low levels of memory usage.

This program won´t make your PC faster than it actually is. It does however, optimize the system´s performance by freeing RAM memory up, and without any doubt SUPERRAM clearly does the job.
