Current trends when designing interfaces are undoubtedly choosing a minimalist style, making people like these applications created under these trends since their use is more intuitive and friendly and have a low grade of visual pollution, allowing the user to focus on the writing area and optimizing the working time, because they only have the necessary elements to work on the interface.
Thanks to this current design method, software like Open Office for instance, has gained public because they are easy to use but they don´t have less functions. Unlike Open Office, Microsoft Word does not seem to be directed toward this new trend and style, but there are ways to imitate it. To achieve a minimalist look in Word, the first thing you should do is to choose reading mode, following Vista route and then Full Screen Reading. After done this, we will noticed that Microsoft Word will not allow us to write, since we are in reading mode. To enable us to write, we must select in the options Allow Writing, Show a page and Reduce / Increase the text size. With this already chosen we can use a Minimalist Word.
Although this mode avoid some details, other applications have been developed under a minimalist concept, such as Open Office, has other advantages that are making Word a powerful tool to edit text.
