Flashget, the most popular download manager of the recent times

Flashget, the most popular download manager of the recent times

FlashGet is in charge of controlling all downloads we do from the internet, disabling those of the browsers we are working with, turning into the predetermined manager. It supports the most known protocols, HTTP, FT and BT to name a few, and helps increase the download speed and stability.

FlashGet stands out against the other download managers because it allows you to pause the downloads and reload them, group the downloads in categories, attach descriptions to the downloaded files, keep a download history, program times to start downloading, and administer the download speed, among other functionalities.

After going through an extremely simple installation, we’ll be able to adapt the application to our needs. From choosing the language, to the election of the download parameters, FlashGet will let us do a basic configuration to make it suitable for our system and to how we are used to work when we download a file.

Among the options on the Tools menu, we can see eyelashes to configure, not only the connection, monitoring and protocols, but also FlashGet’s performance as regards popular file sharing and download programs like BitTorrent and eMule, to name a few. We’ll find, as well, a file organizer eyelash, where we’ll be able to automatically scan the downloaded files to search for viruses, and another one of planned downloads, where we’ll be able to program the download in times when the computer is free.

FlashGet is easy to use, as if we click to download a file, a window with predetermined values will show up, such as the name of the file, the folder in which it will be saved, etc., giving us also the possibility to modify this information. It also gives us the possibility to include the mirror addresses, in case there’s a failure, to be able to go on with the download using one of the other servers.

Once the downloads start, we’ll be able to see them detailed on the lower part of the screen. Next to the files we’ll see how much we have downloaded, the remaining time and any type of error we may encounter. If we minimize FlashGet or if we press the Close button, the program will place itself on the taskbar, next to the Windows clock. This means that it’s still running until we close it permanently. We’ll be able to check the downloads’ process from the semitransparent mobile square that we can move to any part of the screen. To end the application we need to press the button Exit.

Maybe the only disadvantage of FlashGet is that it doesn’t work with downloads from websites like Megaupload, Rapidshare, Mediafire, etc. You need to have Premium accounts with those sites and still, you may experiment relatively low download levels, in contrast to the downloads from direct links or from those pages in which the links are permanent.

Undoubtedly, FlashGet results very easy to use and configure, what makes it the favorite download manager of millions of users that already use it.
