Protect information and files with password using Password Manager XP
Endless times we’ve asked how to protect files and folders with a password to avoid other users have access to them. Fortunately, there are programs like Password Manager XP that makes it easy the saving, administration and, above all that, the protection of our valuable information on the computer, encrypting our database with restricted access.
To start using Password Manager XP we’ll need to go to the option “Database” situated on the upper menu bar left corner, and choose “Create New”. This way, it’ll emerge a dialog window with different eyelashes.
On the first one, named “General”, we’ll need to choose the main aspects: on the field “Database Name”, we need to type the name that we’ll give this new data base, then we’ll write the password that we’ll use to protect this information on the field “Password” and we’ll repeat it on “Retype password”; next we have left writing a brief description of the database (optional), choose its destination on the PC (“Database Location”) and “OK”.
If we still want to give better security standards to our database, we’ll be able to configure on the other eyelashes (User, Encryption, Parameters and Backup) things like: who will be the enabled users to access to them, type of encryption, etc; though we highly recommend (for the majority of the users) keeping this configuration by default.
Once created the database, we have left to include the files and information we want to protect. To do that, we can simply select them in their original location and drag them to the Password Manager XP main window. When we do this, a new dialog window will emerge, on the “General” eyelash, we’ll give a name to that new group, and then press “OK”
By repeating this, we’ll be able to add innumerable files and information to the database, but it’s really important that we delete the files from their original location when we add them to Password Manager XP as they will only be protected the ones located on the database.
To be able to access to the files again, we’ll need to open the Password Manager XP and select our database and enter the password when it’s asked. Then we’ll do double click on any of them to be able to visualize a window from which, after clicking on “Extract” on the upper menu of the eyelash “Files”, and choose a new location on the computer, Password Manager XP will extract the files automatically.
As we’ve seen, protect files and folders with password so only those who know it can access, is simple and safe with Password Manager XP.
