Some Firefox Tips

The faster, more dynamic and easy-to-use a web browser is, the more pleasant surfing the web will be. Next, we will provide a few tips to improve Firefox´s performance to maximize your browsing experience.

We can start by disabling windows´ resize feature. Open Firefox and select “tools” and then “options…” from the menu bar. Now click the “content” tab and click on the “advanced…” button –next to “Enable Java”. Once inside we can disable “move or resize existing windows”.

Now let´s take a look at a simple trick which many will find extremely useful.
One of the new features of Firefox is tabbed browsing, but users sometimes find themselves lost when tabs don’t are moved outside the tab menu when there are too many of them –thus showing a left and right arrow on their sides. This makes it more difficult to use tabs and slows down the browsing experience. To remove this feature, go to the address bar and type “about:config”. A huge commands list will be shown. Look for “browser.tabs.tabMinWidth” -or just type it- and change its value to 0. If you installed “TabMix Plus” you must follow the same procedure, but changing the command “extensions.tabmix.minWidth”.

Shortcuts are another feature to bear in mind when surfing the web. These so-called shortcuts -or hotkeys- will simplify some tasks, such as opening new tabs, using the search function, zoom in/out and more. For instance we can scroll down using the space bar and scroll up by pressing down shift + space bar.

Other handy shortcuts are:
• Ctrl+F to search the current page
• Ctrl+D to bookmark the current page
• Ctrl+T to open a new tab
• Ctrl+K to go to the search box
• Ctrl+L to go to the address bar
• Ctrl +/- to zoom in/out.
• Ctrl+W to close a tab
• F5 to refresh the current page.
• Alt+home to go Firefox´s default homepage.

There are plenty of tips and tweaks that can drastically improve Firefox performance. Tips range from manipulation and the use of windows, using shortcuts –which can be changed from the browser´s settings- so any user can customize their browsing experience.
