Choose your favorite instant mail client software
Between the most popular software on the network we found Instant mail clients. This type of software allows sending and receiving messages between users connected to a network, being this mass media, one of the most used nowadays.
Although the most used is Windows Live Messenger, there are others worth mentioned, like AIM, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ and Miranda. Let´s see then, the differences between them.
Windows Live Messenger
Windows Live Messenger is without a doubt the most downloaded software in the world that has fulfilled all the requirements the users need. In the conversations it features: text use and emoticons, animated emoticons (GIF), hand writing, games and files exchange; in addition to this, it offers the possibility of being able to leave a messages to the offline contacts that will later see when they are online again.
Between all its features we found the possibility of having voice conversation and watch other user using a Web or a digital camera; or having group conversations with our contacts. In addition to this, MSN offers us a Hotmail e-mail account to use with our contacts and friends.
In its last update Windows Live Messenger has added new options, like the possibility of making calls to landline and mobile phones by using the VoIP services.
A great disadvantage is the spyware, present in the last versions, and also the security it offers since is very easy to hack the account´s privacy.
AIM
This is another instant mail client option, developed by America on Line. Between its features we found the option to save our conversations; leave messages to the offline contacts; share list of friends and images; using icons to illustrate instant messages; set up alert to notify our friends are online, etc. In addition to this, AIM, does not have limits of contacts.
Between its original options we found the one that enables us to communicate with others from our PC to a telephone, having as a requirement only that our supplier support this service.
Although this is complete and useful software, the fact that many people do not have an AIM account, make us difficult to communicate with other people.
Yahoo! Messenger
Yahoo Messenger is one of the most popular and complete instant mail software. Between its features stands out the automatic update of the software; the possibility of predefining our status before being online; the exchange of any type of file; the possibility of saving our messages and print them; using a Webcam; automatically identify the phone number and e-mail address included in the conversations and being able to add them to the Yahoo! Contact list; the possibility of making voice calls from PC to PC or phone to PC with great quality; using the contacts search bar, making peer to peer connections; having group conversations, and more.
The same as Messenger the main problem this software has is the vulnerability of the accounts. These can be hacked easily and in addition to this, Trojans and viruses are very frequently found1.
ICQ
ICQ is the first instant mail software that can be used on the Internet connecting through the ICQ network.
This software offers the possibility of sending messages and files to our contacts, play games, use it as a businesses tool to contact Internet partners, and give it the use we need.
The conversations between the users can be personalized with its different features such as: chatting, the use of drawing board, data conference, files or game transference through the Internet, etc. ICQ sends the messages through the network in real time.
Its main advantage is that it consumes few memory and Internet resources.
The only disadvantage we found is that other users can detect our IP number easily. This makes the access to our computer easier to other to manipulate it as they want. As a consequence, we can have many problems such as losing information or many viruses.
Miranda
Is a multiple instant mail client compatible with most of the well known clients (MSN, Yahoo!, etc.) Its basic feature is resources saving, thanks to its unique interface integrated for all these software. The only problem is that at first, Miranda, only offer a single basic e-mail option, but, we can add to its interface up to 120 and thus to personalize it as we want.
Miranda is a multiprotocol application, reason why it will have in a single interface the possibility of communicating no mattering the mail client we choose to chat. Between the available protocols we can find MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, IAX, and others.
As we have seen, there are several software to communicate with people through the Internet. Each of them has similar advantages and disadvantages; they are relatively at the same level.
Despite there are many, the most used and perhaps the most complete is Windows Live Messenger, the software that has expanded everywhere and has added thousands of users like no other.
