Yahoo´s homepage finally revamped
After months of research, development, testing and listening to users´ requests, Yahoo´s homepage finally gets a revamps featuring a user-friendly interface along with new tools.
The long-awaited overhaul was greatly accepted on behalf of American users, who were able to experience the revamp since July 20. New feedback is to be expected next week when users from France, UK and India can access the homepage. Other countries will have to wait until next month.
The new homepage features a more appealing look, a more minimalistic look we could say. Yahoo will “pre-populate this menu based on users’ browsing behavior”, with news and headlines running down the middle of the site.
With the new revamped interface, Yahoo drops the old concept of being a service content provider, which usually led to a confusing and uncomfortable homepage which users found useless on most occasions. The new Yahoo! homepage features a customizable toolbar on the left of the page, which allows users to connect with their favorite outside applications including hot online services.
With the new Yahoo homepage, people can easily add apps – from Yahoo or virtually any other site on the Web and access them from their computer or mobile devices so that their favorite content, services and experiences are always at their fingertips.
The updated home page is part of an overhaul aimed at recapturing some of the buzz that Yahoo has lost to increasingly popular online hangouts like GMAIL, Yahoo Mail, MSN, and more.
Tapan Bhat -a Yahoo senior vice president- stated that they have taken out a lot of our own stuff that was creating a dead zone for most users. Users can plant a variety of applications from other Web site onto a “My Favorites” section of the redesigned front page.
The 65 applications initially available on Yahoo’s new page include competing e-mail services from Google Inc. and AOL, RSS Feeds, as well as plug-ins for Facebook and MySpace. Just by clicking on any these websites, a flyout menu will be displayed for us to quickly access each of them.
Another noticeable difference between the new and old Yahoo! home page is the header area with the Yahoo! logo and search bar. No more red –chosen in 1995- and lots more purple. Back then, monitors were not able to handle purple properly and showed blue and brown hues.
Featuring new colors, but most importantly, a handy minimalistic interface, the revamped Yahoo website is an excellent choice to take into account when opening your web browser.
